Alissa is a restorative yoga teacher, a curator of quiet spaces, meditation writer, and a sweet accompaniment in all things of spirit.
As it often goes in life, her launch into well-being was first sparked by a personal health crisis. When faced with the immense difficulty of letting go, it became clear:
She really had no idea how.
And so the search for answers began. Her introspective nature drew her to a two year program in the art of spiritual direction, and psycho-spiritual formation and practice at the Haden Institute.
But, this was really just the beginning.
As she finally settled onto the mat with yoga and meditation, things came together. She felt better. To understand why, she entered into a contemplative year of quiet, exploring the deeply healing restorative practice, the Yoga of Being.
Out of this quiet grew her love for what heals us, inspiring a further pursuit into therapy-based Yoga Teacher training (300hr), and Restorative Yin Yoga training (20hr) at Yoga Therapy Toronto.
Now, culminating years of study and lived experience, she offers you an opportunity that is both meaningful and, in these times we live, necessary.
So, here we are.
Come, let’s work together.
There are many ways to create a bit of peace in our lives, and Restorative Yoga, with an emphasis on meditation, is one. With this gentle approach to yoga, we shift our focus from the activity of "doing" towards the inner stillness of "being". The effect is deeply therapeutic.
The practice begins with light, breath-centred movement to settle the body, and to help ease the frenetic activity of the mind towards a steady, gentle awareness of sensations. As we slow down we become more attentive, and present to how things are, just as they are. Gently, we transition into restorative postures, using pillows and blankets, to settle us into a restful stillness. Meditation is woven throughout, inviting us back to the present moment and reconnecting us with our inherent capacity to be kind, accepting, generous, and at ease.
Why do we practice like so?
Because healing happens in the quiet.
