A restorative yoga session typically begins with light, breath-centred movement to settle the body and nervous system into a parasympathetic, relaxed, state. This settling down helps ease the frenetic activity of the mind towards a steady, gentle awareness of sensations. As we slow down we become more attentive, and capable of being present to how things are, just as they are. Gently, we transition into restorative postures, using pillows and blankets, to settle us into a restful stillness. Body scans and meditation are woven throughout, inviting us back to the present moment and reconnecting us with our inherent capacity to be compassionate, accepting, centred and at ease.
